Training and Support for Older Dogs and Rescue Dogs

Rescued Dogs

It is a complete misnomer that all rescue dogs have had terrible lives, that a dog that flinches has been hit, or one that shies away from other dogs has been attacked. Many rescue dogs end up in kennels through, no fault of their own and far too many are there through no other reason than turning from a cute puppy into an adolescent.

Many dogs that are brought home from rescue centres, simply adjust and get on happily in life, sometimes even with a more 'grateful' attitude!

There are many though that need a little bit of help to adjust because their previous lives may have been very different. They may have little habits that they developed with previous owners that drive the new ones nuts for example.

There are also some rescued dogs that genuinely have had a terrible time and are in serious need of professional assistance.

If you are at all concerned about your adopted dog or would just like some help to settle them in, please do get in contact. Often I will be able to give free advice over the phone. If you need more assistance than that, I can offer a 15% discount on behavioural assessments for dogs from recognised rescue services (E.g. Dogs Trust, Many Tears).

Many rescue centres will insist that you sign up for training classes, so I offer a £10 discount on Foundation Training Courses for dogs from those establishments.

Older Dogs

This section is just to let you know that it is not true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. If you have an older dog and want to do some training, get in touch. If you have an older dog and wish you could get that recall right, get in touch. If you have an older rescue dog, get in touch.

I have had eight, nine and ten year old dogs in class, who did as well and sometimes better than the youngsters. And perhaps unbelievably two different Yorshire Terriers who live with younger dogs who have taken to the clicker with gusto at the grand old age of eighteen!
