Help for dogs who have behavioural issues

Behaviour Support

Please be aware that I am not a behaviourist as such, but also be aware that there are many people out there that call themselves behaviourists who are far less qualified than I am. There are no rules and regulations determining who may call themselves a behaviourist as yet so please be very careful when seeking behavioural advice.

I am a dog trainer who has had two years training at degree level in canine behaviour, learning and training. Next year I will have had three years and will have the degree under my belt. I also have considerable behavioural experience.

If you have a particular worry with your dog's behaviour, please do get in contact.

Some examples of behaviour difficulties I could help with are:

  • Car phobias including travel sickness
  • Noise phobias - fireworks and so forth
  • Chasing - cars, sheep, other dogs etc
  • Excessive barking
  • Aggression to other dogs
  • Nervousness and anxiety
  • Excessive excitablity
  • Guarding
  • Growling
  • Snapping
  • Separation anxiety
  • Jumping up
  • Begging
  • Stealing
  • House training problems

And many more.

In order to help address your dog's particular difficulty I will visit you at home and carry out a full assessment taking approximately two hours. This is very informal but thorough and professional. I can usually give you an idea at that appointment as to what will be involved. I may need to carry out a further assessment of your dog's behaviour with you, perhaps out on a walk or whatever is appropriate. I then prepare you a full behavioural report, with details of what will be needed to be done to address the difficulties.

As each dog is individual, each plan will be different. The basic cost for the assessment and the report is £70 with any additional sessions charged at £20 per hour. I run an ethical business and will only prescribe further sessions of my time that are genuinely needed. Many behaviour programmes can be followed at home with e-mail or telephone support as you go along.

If further sessions are needed, these are unlikely to be weekly as proper behavioural work takes time. We will work together at a pace and schedule to suit you and your dog.

If your dog has serious aggression issues, I can refer you to people who specialise in that area who are members of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors. Don't risk going to someone who does not have full credentials, they may be fantastic but they may also damage your dog.

If you are worried about your dog's behaviour in any way, please do contact me for a no obligation chat.
